A Voir…/ What To See…Brittany maintains its own distinct character, closely interwoven with its celtic past and the sea, and so some of the most interesting sights are linked with these. There are lots of prehistoric monuments scattered around the countryside, the most famous being the lines of standing stones (or menhirs) at Carnac on the south coast. Historic ports are equally fascinating, in particular St Malo and Concarneau, along with castles and monasteries such as Josselin and of course Mont St Michel. The real charm of Brittany is its unspoilt villages and countryside, and almost any walk, And if you really want to immerse yourself in Brittany, then make sure you experience a fest noz - an evening of traditional singing and dancing that you will find yourself joining in! A Manger… / Try this…Fresh food from the countryside and the sea is Brittany’s speciality, and the local markets provide ideas in abundance. Try a “plat de fruits de mer” at a restaurant – a fantastic dish with all sorts of seafood from crab to oysters. If you have children (and even if you don’t) you’ll love the many different crêpes – pancakes with different savoury or sweet fillings. The local cider is to be highly recommended too – ideal for a beach picnic. And if there is one thing you shouldn’t miss, then it is “far breton” – a delicious, crumbly cake that is far too rich for its own good but totally irresistible!
